Every day the adult population with functional diversity in its different manifes-tations is increasing significantly. At present, pediatric dentists have assumed responsibility for the management of these special beings. However, just as an adult stops going to his pediatrician, an adult with special needs should be seen by general dentists or specialists with knowledge in behavioral management of these. This course aims to explain some techniques and recommendations for general dentists so that to a lesser or greater degree they help this population so in need of dental services.

  • To explain the most relevant guidelines and definitions.
  • To describe architectonic barriers.
  • To mention the variety of wheelchairs.
  • To explain the common recommendations of EQ.
  • Explanation of the different devises and techniques.
  • Explanation of the basic information and uses of the silver diamine fluoride.
  • To describe teaching methodology of non pharmacological behavioral management for dental students at RCM, EMD.

Dr. Juan L. Molina Negrón

Dr. Juan Luis Molina is a graduate of the School of Dental Medicine-UPR. He began at the State Psychiatric Hospital (1996) doing a mandatory year of service. Later he has remained under contract until the present. Since 1998, he began to treat patients from the Hospital of Forensic Psychiatry. Since 2003, he is the Director of the Dental Service of the Department of Health of Puerto Rico for Adult with Intellectual Disabilities (DSPDI). Since 2012, he began to help bedrid-den and hospice patients at their homes. Starting in 2016, he began as an Auxiliary Professor in the Department of Ecological Sciences, teaching non-pharmacological management of adults with disabilities.
